Ellen Cooper (BSc. Hons, MCSP, MHCPC, MACPC, MACPIN, MATAPC)
Senior Neurological and Paediatric Physiotherapist
Ellen is a HCPC-registered Chartered Physiotherapist who graduated from Keele University. After qualifying, she gained broad clinical experience through a variety of NHS rotations before specialising in neurological rehabilitation. She currently works as a Senior Neurological Physiotherapist within the NHS alongside her role at Positive Steps, providing specialist private neurological and paediatric physiotherapy across Staffordshire for both adults and children with neurological conditions.
Ellen has a particular clinical interest in neurological physiotherapy, stroke rehabilitation, and paediatric neurological care. She has extensive experience assessing and treating individuals with a wide range of neurological conditions, using evidence-based rehabilitation to improve mobility, balance, strength, independence, and confidence. She enjoys supporting people to achieve meaningful, functional goals, whether at home, in the community, at school, or in the clinic.
As one of the team's all-round clinicians, Ellen works across a diverse caseload, supporting adults and children throughout Staffordshire with complex rehabilitation needs. Her expertise includes neurological rehabilitation, paediatric physiotherapy, stroke rehabilitation, balance and gait re-education, functional mobility, exercise prescription, strength and conditioning, developmental motor skills, and long-term neurological condition management. She works closely with families, carers, schools, case managers, consultants, GPs, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver personalised, goal-focused rehabilitation.
Ellen is committed to maintaining the highest standards of clinical practice and regularly attends specialist courses, webinars, and professional development events to ensure her patients receive the most up-to-date, evidence-based care. She is passionate about supporting the future of the profession and plays an active role in mentoring physiotherapy students during their placements with Positive Steps, helping to develop the next generation of physiotherapists.
Alongside her clinical work, Ellen has volunteered internationally in Mexico with a charity supporting children and adults with disabilities who have limited access to rehabilitation, specialist equipment, and healthcare services. This experience strengthened her passion for improving access to physiotherapy and empowering people to reach their full potential, and she hopes to return to continue supporting the charity in the future.
Outside of work, Ellen is a Guide Leader and volunteers with her local church's Sunday School. Helping others is at the heart of everything she does, and this commitment to supporting people in all aspects of life is what drew her to the Positive Steps team. She is passionate about helping every individual move better, become more independent, and enjoy the activities that matter most to them.
