Absolutely! There is never a deadline or limit on time passing between physio meaning you can’t start again. Even if you have not had physio for a long time you can still progress and work towards your goals with physiotherapy.
At Positive Steps we are passionate about helping clients to reach their full potential, working towards goals to help you do more of what matters to you. Assessments will help us see what you may be struggling with and then sessions will focus on help improving this. Through discussions with the client, we identify goals and work towards them in the treatment session. These goals may include balance, coordination, strength.
Yes, it’s absolutely worth it. We hear this a lot, and often, there is more that can be done, even if the focus shifts from recovery to managing symptoms, improving quality of life, or preventing deterioration. Our approach is to meet you where you’re at. Sometimes, just having a fresh pair of eyes or access to different techniques and resources can open up new possibilities. Even small changes can make a big difference to independence, confidence, and daily life.
Your first appointment is designed to help us fully understand your needs and goals. We’ll start with a detailed conversation about your medical history, current symptoms, and what brought you to physiotherapy. You’ll have the opportunity to talk openly about any concerns, challenges, or things that have or haven’t worked for you before. We’ll then complete a physical assessment, this might include looking at your posture, strength, flexibility, balance, and how you move. Don’t worry, everything is explained, and we’ll work at your pace. By the end of the session, we’ll discuss our findings and put together a plan tailored to you. This could involve hands-on treatment, exercises, equipment use, advice or a combination. You'll leave understanding what’s possible and what your next steps could be.
We will always aim to keep our physio sessions as interactive as possible, but we understand that a child’s mood and tiredness levels can change from session to session. This is why we always try to make to exercises and tasks as functional as possible, use different equipment or toys or distraction techniques such as singing to re-engage the child. We are very used to being flexible and adapting sessions!
The main difference between hydrotherapy and land-based Physiotherapy is that hydrotherapy utilises the properties of water. These properties include increased buoyancy, added resistance from the water and relaxation. It is also a fun and a motivating way of completing therapy! If are unsure what is best for you reach out and contact us. We are happy to discuss options with yourselves.
We have an amazing clinic that we work from. However, we accept that sometimes this doesn’t work for everyone so we do also complete sessions in multiple environments such as a client’s own home, their school, care homes or community centres. Our hydrotherapy sessions take place at Newfriars college in their hydrotherapy pool.
Treatment sessions typically involve a combination of hands-on therapy, exercises and education. The specific activities will depend on the individuals needs and goals outlined in their individualised treatment plan.
Absolutely! We’re very used to working in partnership with NHS teams, consultants, GPs, and other healthcare providers. With your permission, we can share updates, reports, or treatment plans to make sure everyone involved is working towards the same goals. Collaborating with your wider team helps provide consistency and ensures that you’re fully supported, no matter where you’re receiving care.
No you don’t. We work with a combination of clients of those that have a diagnosis of a lifelong condition, some that have no diagnosis and others that need a little bit of help for a short period of time. We never treat solely a diagnosis, instead we treat and work with whatever the client presents with and how to help them achieve their goals.
The number of sessions depends on your individual goals, condition, and how your body responds to physiotherapy. Some people feel a big improvement after just a few sessions, especially if they’re looking for advice and reassurance. Others with more complex or longer-term conditions may need ongoing support. We’ll review progress regularly and adjust the plan as we go. You’ll never be tied into unnecessary sessions, everything is guided by what’s right for you.
We understand that life happens — things change, illness strikes, or schedules clash. If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, we kindly ask for at least 24 hours' notice. Cancellations with less notice or missed appointments may be charged a fee to cover the time set aside for you. Giving us notice allows us to offer the slot to someone else who might be waiting.
Please click the contact tab at the top of the page and fill out the enquiry form. Our business coordinator Becky will get back to you ASAP.
