Gemma Close Up

Gemma has qualifications in Level 1 and Level 2 Education and Early Years and has worked in a variety of childcare and education settings throughout her career. Early on, she discovered a true passion for supporting children and young people with additional needs, finding it incredibly rewarding to help them build confidence, independence, and achieve their full potential.

During her six years working in a special educational needs (SEN) school, Gemma loved every minute of her role. It was there that she met Lorna Saunders, Owner and Director of Positive Steps Physiotherapy. Lorna quickly recognised Gemma's dedication, compassion, and natural ability to motivate children to achieve meaningful goals, making her a perfect fit for the Positive Steps team.

Today, Gemma describes working with Lorna and the team as her dream job. She is passionate about providing fun, engaging, and child-centred physiotherapy support that helps children make progress while building confidence and enjoying every achievement along the way.

Gemma specialises in supporting babies, toddlers, children, and young people across both mainstream education and specialist SEN settings. She has particular experience working with children with complex physical disabilities, sensory processing needs, and additional developmental challenges, tailoring every session to the individual child and their family's goals.

A part of Gemma’s role is leading and developing the Little Steps class, a programme designed to help toddlers gain confidence on their feet, develop gross motor skills, improve balance and coordination, and enjoy movement through play. Gemma loves being able to return to Kemball as part of her role at Positive Steps Physiotherapy, providing physiotherapy support through the wonderful partnership between Positive Steps and the school. She finds it incredibly rewarding to follow each child's journey, watching them grow from young children into confident young adults, and feels privileged to play a part in supporting them every step of the way.

Gemma is a passionate advocate for family-centred care, believing that the best outcomes are achieved when therapists, parents, carers, and schools work together. She enjoys supporting family fun days, helping her clients and families enjoy fun inclusive events.

Her greatest reward is seeing children overcome challenges, celebrate milestones, and achieve goals that once seemed out of reach. Gemma is committed to helping every child reach their full potential while providing encouragement, practical support, and reassurance to the whole family throughout their journey.
