Katie Andrew (BSc (Hons), MSc, MCSP)
Neurological and Paediatric Physiotherapist
Katie is an experienced Physiotherapist with a specialist interest in adult and paediatric neurological rehabilitation, exercise-based rehabilitation and supporting people living with long-term and complex health conditions.
Katie’s passion for health, wellbeing and exercise began at an early age. As a teenager, she was a competitive swimmer, competing at national events alongside participating in a variety of other sports. This interest in exercise and human performance led Katie to complete a BSc (Hons) in Sports and Exercise Science, followed by an MSc in Cardiovascular Rehabilitation and a Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training. She later achieved her long-term ambition of becoming a Physiotherapist, completing a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy and becoming an HCPC Registered Physiotherapist.
Before qualifying as a Physiotherapist, Katie spent more than 15 years specialising in Cardiovascular Rehabilitation within the NHS, developing extensive experience in exercise prescription, rehabilitation and supporting people with a wide range of long-term and complex health conditions.
Today, Katie works as part of the Positive Steps team, developing her specialist expertise in neurological physiotherapy for adults and children. Her clinical interests include stroke rehabilitation, Parkinson’s, muscular dystrophy, neurological exercise rehabilitation, strength and conditioning, gym-based rehabilitation and hydrotherapy.
Katie enjoys making rehabilitation engaging, supportive and individual to each person. She works across a variety of settings, including one-to-one physiotherapy sessions, group exercise classes, gym-based rehabilitation and hydrotherapy, using exercise and movement to help clients improve their physical abilities, build confidence and work towards meaningful personal goals.
Katie is particularly passionate about making exercise accessible to people living with neurological conditions. She established Positive Steps’ first Adult Neurological Exercise Class, creating a supportive environment where clients can exercise alongside others, build confidence and continue working towards their rehabilitation goals.
Alongside her clinical work, Katie supports physiotherapy students on placement, mentors newly qualified staff and physiotherapy assistants, contributes to Positive Steps community events and helps create educational content to raise awareness of neurological conditions and rehabilitation.
At the heart of Katie’s approach is a belief that rehabilitation should be personal, positive and focused on what matters to each individual. Her aim is to help every client maximise their abilities, remain active and ultimately improve their independence and quality of life.
