Maisie Kearney (MSc, BSc Hons)

Physiotherapy Apprentice, Clinical Exercise Physiologist, Personal Trainer

Maisie is currently undertaking a Physiotherapy Degree Apprenticeship with Positive Steps Physiotherapy in partnership with the University of Derby, working towards HCPC registration as a Physiotherapist in 2029. She joined Positive Steps in 2025 as a Physiotherapy Assistant and has since developed her clinical skills while supporting adults and children with a wide range of rehabilitation needs across community, clinic, hydrotherapy and educational settings.

Before beginning her apprenticeship, Maisie completed a BSc (Hons) in Sport and Exercise Science followed by an MSc in Clinical Exercise Physiology at Liverpool John Moores University. Her academic background has provided a strong understanding of exercise prescription, rehabilitation, long-term condition management and the role of physical activity in improving health, function and quality of life.

Maisie has a particular interest in neurological rehabilitation, paediatric physiotherapy and exercise-based rehabilitation. She works with both adults and children, supporting individuals with neurological conditions, developmental disorders and reduced mobility to improve strength, balance, confidence and independence through personalised rehabilitation programmes. She has experience delivering hydrotherapy, community rehabilitation and exercise interventions, always aiming to help patients achieve meaningful goals that enhance their daily lives.

Alongside her role at Positive Steps, Maisie has gained valuable experience across a range of healthcare and sporting environments, including supporting elite athletes with Team GB Taekwondo and Liverpool Football Club, as well as working within hospital and private clinical settings. These experiences have strengthened her understanding of rehabilitation across different populations and reinforced her passion for providing evidence-based, patient-centred care.

Maisie is passionate about making exercise accessible to everyone and enjoys supporting people of all ages to become more active and independent. She is committed to continually developing her clinical knowledge and regularly engages in professional learning throughout her apprenticeship to ensure she delivers safe, effective and evidence-informed care.

Outside of work, Maisie enjoys marathon running, endurance events and being involved with local running clubs. She is passionate about promoting the benefits of physical activity within the community and inspiring people to build confidence through movement.
